We are happy (thrilled, actually!) to report that Lily has done GREAT post-operatively. She is healing very well thus far. Thankfully, Lily's surrogate calf has FINALLY caught on to nursing. It probably helped that she FINALLY stopped kicking him in the face! Anyhow, she has accepted him as her offspring, and they are quite the happy pair. We are very pleased! You may wonder..."What's the big deal? You guys are veterinarians after all, so shouldn't it be fine... even easy?" Well, let me explain. If you are around animals at all, you figure out pretty quickly that things often don't turn out as planned. Animals have a way of changing the rules on you. This whole phenomenon, this "Murphy's Law" of animal care and doctoring, is exponentially worse if you are a vet and you are working on your own animals. They make it ten times harder than it would ordinarily be. Mind you, it doesn't even matter if you're a great vet, it still sometimes goes this way. We have had the "fun" of treating a downer goose, a goose with a broken leg, an egg-bound duck, a nasty laceration on a filly, abscesses, a chronically lame horse, dying calves...the list goes on. Mark it up to animal drama, I guess (each one has to be special, right?). So, that Lily torsed was quite unusual, and that it's turning out okay is...well, good news! On that note, here is the newest member of our drama-filled herd.....This is Cliffy.
